AMICA translates the same way from German, Italian, and Latin – friend.

The German women’s rights organization AMICA e.V. has become not only a friend, but also a permanent partner in many projects!

This is the third project this year – “Strengthening the mental health of women and girls traumatised by war and affected by violence in Ukraine” – and it is being implemented in several cities in the Dnipropetrovsk region at once. The geography is vast – Dnipro, Kamianske, Kryvyi Rih, Nikopol, Pokrov, and Pereshchepyne.

The project aims to improve the quality of psychological support for women and girls who have suffered from violence and war, and to improve the well-being, mental health, and social participation of women and girls.

As part of the project, individual psychosocial counseling is already being provided in Kamensk, Kryvyi Rih, and Pokrov in various formats—in person and online.

There will be many group activities on topics such as art, music, and body therapy. Self-help groups will definitely be created, and separate care will be organized for children who come to the groups with their mothers.

At least nine informational events on gender-based and sexual violence and its impact on health are also planned in Kamensk, Kryvyi Rih, Pokrov, and Nikopol.

The cooperation between the NGO “Space for Positive Change” and AMICA e.V. will continue within the framework of the project next year, and we are grateful for this partnership! Although our meetings are held online, we feel the support of our friends as if we were seeing each other in person every day!

The project is being implemented with the support and funding of the German women’s rights organization AMICA e.V. and the German foundation Else-Kröner-Fresenius-Stiftung.

AMICA e.V. was founded in Germany in 1993 with the aim of supporting women in need of assistance in regions affected by crises and wars. AMICA promotes active and peaceful work and the development of civil society in South-Eastern and Eastern Europe and the Middle East, in particular by enabling women to gain equal rights and become strong activists in the movement for peace and an active civil society. AMICA e.V. actively implements UN Resolution 1325.
